Validators in MFX Network โ€” run a node and earn rewards

Validators play a key role in ensuring the security and decentralization of the MFX Network. The network is already running on mainnet, and we invite early validators to join the ecosystem.

Role of Validators

Securing Blocks

Validators confirm blocks and transactions, ensuring network integrity and security.

Network Availability

Maintain high network availability, ensuring continuous infrastructure operation.

Decentralization

Participate in network decentralization, increasing its resilience and reliability.

Governance Participation

Participate in network governance and parameter decisions.

Hardware & Connectivity Requirements

CPU:
4โ€“8 vCPU
RAM:
8โ€“16 GB
Disk:
SSD 200โ€“500 GB
Network:
Stable connection from 100 Mbps
OS:
Linux (Ubuntu 20.04+ or similar)

Uptime Requirements

  • Uptime not lower than 95โ€“99% โ€” the node must be available almost constantly
  • Commitment to monitor node updates and apply them in a timely manner
  • Backup of validator keys in a secure location
  • Monitoring node status and quick response to problems

Economics: Rewards & Risks

Rewards

  • Receiving a portion of transaction fees processed by your node
  • Possible additional incentive payments for early participation in the network
  • Participation in network governance and protocol development decisions

Details of the reward model and specific parameters will be clarified as the network develops.

Risks

  • Possibility of missing rewards during node downtime or low uptime
  • Responsibility for the security of your validator keys
  • Potential penalties (slashing) in future protocol versions for malicious behavior
  • Need for constant monitoring and node maintenance

Slashing mechanisms will be introduced gradually with prior notification to validators.

How to Become a Validator

  1. Prepare the server

Make sure your server meets the hardware and connectivity requirements listed above.

  2. Deploy MFX node

Deploy and synchronize the MFX node on your server. Detailed node installation instructions will be published in the documentation.

  3. Generate validator keys

Create a key pair for the validator. Important: store the private key in a secure location and make backups. Losing the key means losing access to the validator.

  4. Register as a validator

Register your validator in the network through a special registration process. Process details will be provided upon request.

  5. Set up monitoring and alerts

Set up a monitoring system to track node status, uptime and performance. Configure alerts for critical events (node failure, synchronization issues, etc.).

  6. Verify participation in consensus

Make sure your node successfully participates in consensus and is visible in the list of active network validators. Check that you are receiving rewards for confirming blocks.

FAQ

Q: Can I use a cloud server?

A: Yes, you can use a cloud server (AWS, DigitalOcean, Hetzner, etc.), but it's important to ensure the provider's stability and its policy regarding blockchain nodes. Some providers may have restrictions or require special agreements. Also consider that cloud servers can be more expensive for long-term operation.

Q: Do I need a large MFX deposit for a validator?

A: Tokenomics parameters and deposit requirements may be clarified as the network develops. At an early stage, the network welcomes validators with different levels of participation. Specific requirements will be communicated when contacting about validator registration.

Q: What to do during protocol updates?

A: Monitor official announcements about upcoming protocol updates. Validators will receive notifications in advance with instructions for updating the node. It's important to update the node in a timely manner to avoid missing new blocks and losing rewards.

Q: How often should I check node status?

A: It's recommended to set up automatic monitoring with alerts for critical events. At minimum, check node status once a day, but it's better to have a monitoring system that will notify you of problems in real time.

Q: Where to contact if there are problems with the validator?

A: If problems arise, contact technical support through the contacts listed in the "Contacts" section. We will help resolve technical issues and answer questions about validator operation.
